Course Overview

This course assists students in the conceptualization and development of a multimedia portfolio, for gaining entry-level work in the multimedia industry.   Resumé writing, interviewing techniques, contracts, licensing issues and other areas of professional practice will be covered.

Goals:

Students should be able to:

  1. Assemble and organize a portfolio in a manner appropriate to their desired area of employment.
  2. Present their portfolio in a professional way.
  3. Produce an appropriate resumé and discuss strategies for researching prospective employers.
  4. Explain elements of an independent contract agreement

Computer Lab Access:

Assignments are to be worked on during the scheduled lab times. You may work outside of class on a computer with the necessary software.   You will also have access to Batmale Lab, please ask instructor about logon information.

Dropping Classes:

If you stop attending class, please remember to officially drop the class. It is your responsibility to DROP. If you simply stop attending, you may receive a grade of "F". You may drop per telephone or in person and you do not need the instructor's permission to drop.

Tentative Schedule:

The following is the general outline for the class.   Assignments are due two weeks after their introduction.    The topics will remain flexible and could change depending on interest and experiences of the class, speaker and presentation opportunities and freak acts of nature.

Week 2 - Jan 23: Portfolio Game Plans: Students bring in Portfolios as is, design game plan for their portfolios. Portfolio format options, look at example sites.

Week 4 - Feb 6: Resumé Workshop/Work on Portfolios

Week 5 -Feb 13: Resumé Workshop/Work on Portfolios

Week 6 - Feb 20: Cover Letter Workshop/Work on Portfolios

Week 12 -Apr 2: No class , students should use this time for their Informational Interviews.
